Convicted killer drank beer, noshed on garlic bread and stole 3 guns after escaping Tennessee prison: cops

A convicted killer who broke out of a Tennessee prison treated himself to cold beer with a side of garlic bread — then stole a truck and three guns while on the run for 10 days, according to authorities.Jacob Morley, 28 — who is serving life for the brutal 2022 murder of a co-worker — was finally captured in a different state Tuesday after breaking out of the Northwest Correctional Complex on Oct.25.
During his daring escape, Morley sought shelter in a farm shed in Marion, Ill., where he apparently made himself right at home. The convict slugged some cold brews and made garlic bread as authorities closed in on him, investigators said.
“How he ended up in Marion is kind of a mystery,” said Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich.Diederich said there’s no evidence Morley had help from anyone.Authorities believe Morley trekked around three miles on foot to the farm after ditching a seperate stolen truck he used following his prison break.Surveillance cameras captured the killer walking away from the vehicle and at several spots along Route 13 — but the rough terrain made it tough for police to catch him, Diederich said.It remains unclear why Morley ended up near Kansas City, more than 350 miles away from the Tennessee lockup.Morley confessed to stealing a second truck from the Marion farm, along with two rifles and a shotgun, according to a probable cause affidavit.
He also left behind a note apologizing for the theft, Diederich said.Morning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.
