Red Sox star Triston Casas stretchered off field after suffering significant injury

The injury bug has plagued the Red Sox, and first baseman Triston Casas is the latest victim.Casas, 25, took a hard fall as he touched first base while running out a ground ball in the second inning of Friday’s game against the Twins at Fenway Park.Upon falling, Casas immediately grabbed his left knee while Boston’s trainers rushed out to help him before eventually being stretchered off the field.After the game, manager Alex Cora told reporters that Casas suffered a “significant knee injury” and that he was still at a local Boston hospital.Before his injury, Casas was off to a slow start for Boston, batting just .182 with a .580 OPS through 29 games.Casas has already dealt with a number of injuries in his short MLB career, most recently missing a significant amount of time last year with torn cartilage in his left rib cage.His rookie year in 2023 was also cut short due to shoulder inflammation during the last month.Casas’s injury on Friday is just one of many that the Red Sox have dealt with to open up the season, though the majority affected their pitching staff.Earlier on Friday, the team announced that starter Walker Buehler would be placed on the 15-day injured list to deal with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, although Cora does not believe the injury is serious.Buehler held a 4-1 record with a 4.28 ERA through his first six starts with Boston.Right-hander Kutter Crawford is also battling patellar tendinopathy in his knee and has yet to make an appearance this year....
