Knicks stopper OG Anunoby gearing up for Jayson Tatum test

OG Anunoby’s next primary defensive task will be no easier than the first one. After mostly doing a strong job manning up against dynamic Detroit point guard Cade Cunningham, Anunoby figures to draw the assignment of guarding six-time All-Star forward Jayson Tatum often in the second round against the Celtics.Tatum averaged 33.5 points and shot 47.8 percent from 3-point range during Boston’s four-game sweep of the Knicks this season, with Tom Thibodeau also using Mikal Bridges as the primary defender against him.“I always have confidence [in OG] no matter who he is guarding,” Jalen Brunson said.“He brings that mindset every game.
And so I have confidence regardless of whatever he is doing.”Cunningham scored 25.0 points per game in the first round, but the 6-foot-7 Anunoby made things difficult for him and helped limit him to 42.6 shooting and just 17.9 percent from deep in the six-game set.“Cade Cunningham’s a hell of a player, being real.Respect to him and what he’s done, the year he’s had,” Karl-Anthony Towns said.
“OG has always stepped up to the challenge of guarding the best player on the other team.OG’s special.
It’s another chance to go out here and be against the best.”Anunoby had a poor offensive showing against Boston this year, averaging 9.0 points on 29.6 percent shooting, including 2-for-15 from 3-point range in three games.Jalen Brunson’s latest New York billboard is far more flattering than the one of him that was put up earlier in the week in Detroit.Nike put up a billboard on Seventh Avenue outside the Garden of Brunson releasing his series-clinching 3-point shot in Game 6 on Thursday night with the caption reading “For Mayor.”“Um, it was really cool, but on to the second round, on to the next,” Brunson said when asked Saturday about the billboard.Sports+ subscribers: Sign up for Inside the Knicks to get daily newsletter coverage and join Expert Take for insider texts about the series.Another billboard poste...
