Trump quips Melania is going to take my job after her revenge porn initiative gets bipartisan support

President Trump joked Thursday that first lady Melania is “going to take” his job after her push to ban revenge porn and deepfake images received bipartisan support in Congress. “We’ve even come together on a bipartisan basis with the help of our great first lady to pass the Take It Down Act, protecting our youth from exploitation,” the president told lawmakers gathered on the South Lawn of the White House for the annual Congressional Picnic. With Melania standing by his side on the Truman Balcony, Trump thanked his wife and the lawmakers in attendance who backed her initiative to stiffen penalties for those who engage in digital exploitation. “I want to thank you, Melania, and thank you, everybody out there,” the president said. “When I saw that bill passed bipartisan, I said, ‘You know, I think you’re going to take my job, Melania,’” Trump quipped.“We don’t get so much bipartisan.” Melania, who was born in Slovenia, is not eligible to become president.

The president revealed that his wife had asked him why legislation passing with the support of both parties is so hard to come by in Washington. “She said, ‘Why is that?’ I said, ‘There is no reason for it.But you did it,’” Trump said of his wife’s efforts.

“Congratulations.It’s a great job.”Trump signed the Take It Down Act into law last month. The measure, championed by the first lady, previously cleared the Senate by unanimous consent. Only two House lawmakers voted no on the measure: Reps.
