Rain rips through NYC, sends US Open spectators scurrying

A wicked rain storm swept through NYC Saturday afternoon on the heels of one of the driest summers in the city’s history.The storm was set to bring strong winds, possible flash flooding and hail in the shape of “quarter-sized” golf balls to the region, forecasters said.“The main threats we’re watching for are damaging winds in excess of 60 plus miles per hour,” Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Braud told The Post Saturday afternoon.“Hail may be embedded in these storms, probably no bigger than maybe quarter-sized golf balls in extreme storms.Downpours may lead to some instances of flash flooding with these storms as well.”All five boroughs were under thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m.

with an estimated inch of rain into tomorrow.“These storms will continue to move throughout the night.They’ll definitely die down in intensity, but we are expecting some form of rain to last overnight into the midday hours,” Braud said.“Some of the lightest rain could last all the way until just after lunch.
