49ers teammates turning on kicker Jake Moody: A lot of ticked-off players

The frustration is boiling over.Several “ticked-off” 49ers expressed their disgust after embattled kicker Jake Moody had a game-tying field-goal attempt blocked in the third quarter of their eventual 17-13 road win over the Seahawks.Moody also whiffed on a 27-yard field goal earlier in the game following a 2024 campaign in which he missed 10 field goals.“That missed kick is really causing some frustration on the 49ers sideline,” Fox’s Pam Oliver reported after the missed kick in the third quarter.“I saw two thrown helmets and a lot of ticked-off looking players.“[Head coach] Kyle Shanahan praised Moody when we spoke to him, he felt the kicker would rebound from last season.
He did have an injury, though, but he felt like Moody’s healthy and should make his kicks.”While the players may be perturbed, Shanahan said after the game there’s “no question” about Moody’s roster spot.“It’s just the way you guys ask it.Right now, I have no question,” Shanahan said.
“I’m trying to finish today, go get on a plane and evaluate stuff, and go back at it.“You guys can ask me every day and I’ll answer how I am right at that moment.”Moody had a strong rookie season in 2023, hitting 21 of 25 field goals, but he became a liability last season. He only connected on 24 of 34 field goals, hitting just 10 of 20 attempts from at least 40 yards. He went 6 of 11 from 40-49 yards, while hitting just 4 of 9 from at least 50 yards.Moody, a third-round pick in 2023, particularly struggled down the stretch. He made just 2 of 6 attempts in the final three games, while also missing one extra point.Moody made a mechanical change in the offseason, dropping his three-step approach for a two-step start that others have used to much success. The 49ers ultimately opted for him over Greg Joseph.“I want to prove to myself that I deserve to be here and that I belong and it doesn’t have anything to do with last year or other people or anything,” Moody told ESPN.
