Teens fined thousands after urinating fiasco at hotpot chain in China

Two teenagers have been ordered to pay over 300,000 dollars in compensation after filming themselves urinate into a pot of broth at a popular restaurant in China.The disgusting act was filmed inside a Haidilao store in Shanghai and shared to social media.The video quickly went viral online.Despite no suggestion that anyone had consumed contaminated soup, Haidilao offered compensation to the thousands of diners who ate there in the days after the incident.The boys copped nationwide criticism.The popular chain sought 23 million yuan in damages [$3,232,903 USD], which included the compensation paid out to thousands of customers.A Shanghai court last week said the teens had infringed upon the companies’ property rights and had impacted its reputation through “acts of insult”.On top of contamination, it was heard the act “caused strong discomfort among the public”.The boys’ parents were also found to have “failed to fulfil their duty of guardianship”.They were made to pay the compensation, according to Chinese state media.The court ordered 2.2 million yuan be paid out [about $309,200 USD], which included $15,000 [about $10,011 USD] in legal bills.According to one report, Haidilao offered compensation to 4000 customers who dined between February 24 to March 8.The payout was a full refund and cash payment of more than 10 times the bill.Morning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.
