Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall ruled out, Mac Jones questionable as 49ers injury nightmare continues

The 49ers’ injury nightmare will continue through Week 6. San Francisco ruled out quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall for Sunday’s bout against the fellow NFC contender Buccaneers in Tampa Bay. It isn’t a guarantee that their backup QB will be suiting up, either. Mac Jones, who has gone 3-0 starting in place of Purdy this season, is questionable with knee and oblique injuries. With their top two quarterbacks hurt, the 49ers brought in Desmond Ridder, Nathan Peterman and Quinten Dormady for a workout on Thursday, according to NFL Network, but didn’t sign any of them.Adrian Martinez is currently the team’s QB2 behind Jones, with Purdy officially sidelined. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle/rib), who has missed two games this season, is also questionable for Sunday.The 49ers are already without tight end George Kittle, who is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who has yet to debut in 2025 after suffering tears to both his ACL and MCL in his right knee last October.On the defensive side, star pass rusher Nick Bosa was shut down for the season after suffering a torn ACL during Week 3.Despite the long list of injuries, the 49ers are currently sitting at 4-1 heading into the matchup against the Bucs. Jones has played well in place of Purdy, throwing for 905 yards with six touchdowns and just one interception. He led the 49ers to a major upset over the Rams last Thursday in Los Angeles with wide receivers Kendrick Bourne and Demarcus Robinson and tight end Jake Tonges as his top pass targets. ...
