Fan hospitalized after falling from upper level during Penguins game

A hockey fan in Pittsburgh is being hospitalized after taking a terrifying tumble from the upper concourse down into the lower bowl at PPG Paints Arena.The incident happened in the first period around 7:10-7:15 p.m.just after Anthony Mantha scored the Penguins’ second goal of the game against the Blues on Sunday night, according to multiple reports. The Penguins confirmed in a statement that the incident had taken place and said the male fan was “immediately attended to by Pittsburgh EMS as well as PPG Paints Arena personnel and has since been transported to a local hospital.” The Penguins said they are “closely monitoring the situation” and that their “concerns remain with the individual and his family at this time.”The individual stumbled down the stairs between sections 201and 234 and then fell headfirst over the glass at the bottom of the stairs, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The fan fell into another person who was in the suite level and then went over into the 100s section. The person in the suite level did not go to the hospital, according to the outlet, and one fan described the individual as having “cartwheeled right over the railing.”Social media images showed that a pane of glass was broken in the upper level and also first responders in the upper level, where the incident reportedly began.The Athletic reported that the fan was was transported to Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The game did not stop when the scary incident happened. Monday’s incident was the third to happen in Pittsburgh at a sporting event this year. Pirates fan Kavan Markwood fell onto the field at PNC Park in April after taking a tumble from the right field seats. Just this Saturday, a stadium worker plummeted 50 feet after falling off the scoreboard at Acrisure Stadium. The worker is in critical condition. ...
