Frankie Muniz is setting the record straight on his two-decade disconnect from Hilary Duff.The “Malcolm in the Middle” alum opened up about why he hasn’t spoken to the former Disney star in 22 years during a recent episode of “The Joe Vulpis Podcast.”“We became really, really good friends,” Muniz, 39, said of the beginning of his and Duff’s friendship.“We had a really great relationship for a long time.”The pair first met as teens when their careers kicked off around the same time.
Duff, now 38, starred in “Lizzie McGuire” starting in 2001, while Muniz joined “Malcom in the Middle” for the sitcom’s debut in 2002.Muniz and Duff became so close that the “Stay Alive” star appeared as himself in an episode of the second season of “Lizzie McGuire.”However, things took a turn for the worse after Muniz informed Duff’s mom that he was preparing to star in “Agent Cody Banks” in 2003.“I was on the set of ‘Lizzie McGuire,’ and I was in Hilary’s dressing room and her mom was there,” the actor recalled.
“Her mom was like, ‘Do you know what you’re doing this summer? What are you doing this summer?’ And I go, ‘Oh, I’m filming this movie where I’m playing like a junior James Bond.’”Muniz claimed that Duff’s mom asked whether the film had a female lead and that, by the next morning, Duff was cast in the role.The “Big Fat Liar” actor, meanwhile, was hoping that “Smallville” star Kristin Kreuk would be cast as his onscreen love interest, Natalie Connors.“Her mom’s like, ‘Guess what?
