Ghislaine Maxwell makes Hail Mary bid to overturn conviction days before Epstein files release

Jeffrey Epstein’s madam, Ghislaine Maxwell, has launched a Hail Mary attempt to have her sex trafficking conviction tossed — potentially complicating the release of the “Epstein files.”Maxwell, 63, maintained in a habeas petition filed in Manhattan federal court Wednesday that “substantial new information” has emerged since her 2021 trial from related lawsuits, reports and government documents proving she was wrongly convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.“The cumulative effect of these constitutional violations constitutes a complete miscarriage of justice, rendering Petitioner’s conviction invalid, unsafe and infirm,” Epstein’s former girlfriend wrote in the filing.She also claimed in her latest bid to overturn her conviction that lawyers for Epstein’s victims “conspired and colluded” with government investigators and that evidence was withheld.The filing could potentially throw a wrench in the planned release of a highly anticipated trove of documents related to the Epstein and Maxwell investigations that must be released by Friday.The Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed by President Trump, includes provisions that would prevent the release of evidence that could jeopardize active investigations and legal matters.The Justice Department has said it plans to release 18 categories of investigative materials gathered in the massive sex trafficking probe, including search warrants, financial records, notes from interviews with victims, and data from electronic devices.Maxwell, 63, was convicted of sex trafficking minors in 2021 and sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
