Gavin Newsom makes wild claim about journalist trying to steal his DNA for paternity test in new book

It’s a hair-raising accusation.Gavin Newsom claimed that a top San Francisco editor wanted nab a lock of the then-mayor’s hair to prove he was lying about his pedigree.In his forthcoming memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry,” Newsom alleges that former San Francisco Chronicle editor Phil Bronstein used intrusive tactics to try to dig up dirt on the former mayor.“He was convinced that if he could just lay his hands on a strand, it would be the first step in proving, once and for all, that my father wasn’t William Alfred Newsom but Gordon Peter Getty,” Newsom writes.Bronstein, who was once married to actress Sharon Stone, ran the Chronicle during Newsom’s rise in city politics.Newsom claims Bronstein was intent on harming his reputation, mainly because of his connection to the wealthy Getty family.Longtime San Francisco political journalist Phil Matier told Politico that there was no love lost between Newsom and Bronstein.“From the get-go, it was back and forth,” he said.“I don’t know what Gavin said about Phil, but Phil definitely had an ax to grind with Gavin.”Newsom’s family has had close ties to the Gettys for generations.

His father and Gordon Peter Getty grew up together, and William Alfred Newsom later worked as Getty’s attorney, managing the family trust.Over the years, the Gettys made significant donations to Newsom’s political campaigns, supporting his rise from San Francisco politics to the governor’s office.Newsom, who’s been spinning sob stories about growing up penniless during a strife-filled childhood ahead of the 2028 presidential race, isn’t fooling anyone, as critics refuse to accept the rags-to-riches claims.Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton has called the whole act a “joke.”“There’s no better example of elitist privilege than Gavin Newsom.Look at his family and his connections, going back generations.
