Campaign kicks off to rename SFs Cesar Chavez Street after Chuck Norris

A movement is afoot in San Francisco to rechristen a street bearing disgraced labor leader Cesar Chavez’s name in honor of late action star Chuck Norris.Stephen M.Pinto, a former candidate for SF District Supervisor, pitched the renaming to the city’s Board of Supervisors in a post on X showing a reimagined street sign bearing the famed martial artist’s name.“Please help us in our effort to rename Cesar Chavez Street to Chuck Norris Boulevard!” he wrote, including a link to a petition supporting the change.Monuments and tributes to Chavez’s status as a civil rights hero are being dismantled across the state — following stunning allegations that he raped and molested two girls beginning at the age of 12 and raped his longtime ally, Dolores Huerta.“In light of the recent controversy around Cesar Chavez and his misconduct, many people in the community feel that his name is no longer worthy of recognition,” Pinto’s petition read.“We feel that Carlos Ray ‘Chuck’ Norris is worthy of recognition and his name should be memorialized on the street that is currently named for Cesar Chavez (formerly Army Street).”Norris died this week at 86 after being rushed to a hospital in Hawaii for a medical emergency.

Born in Oklahoma, his family moved to the Los Angeles area when he was 12.He operated a chain of karate studios across the city before exploding into the mainstream as an action star.

“Milwaukee has their Fonzie statue, Detroit has a RoboCop statue.We should have Chuck Norris Boulevard,” Pinto said in a video posted along with the petition.
