March Madness final is set as Michigan routs Arizona to bring on UConn showdown

With Michigan’s 91-73 blowout win over Arizona on Saturday, the 2026 NCAA championship field is now set.The Wolverines commanded the game from the start, quickly jumping out to 26-14 lead early in the first quarter before star forward Yaxel Lendeborg went down in an injury worry for Michigan.With Lendeborg out, the Wildcats were able to get the game within seven points before Michigan’s defense shined to close out the first half where they entered the break with a 48-32 lead.Despite trainers saying that Lendeborg was suffering with a sprained MCL along with a hurt ankle, he returned on the court to start the second half, nailing two 3-point shots which was met with a roar from the crowd.Lendeborg finished Saturday’s game with 11 points and three rebounds while shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.Wolverines big man Aday Mara led the way on offense during Saturday’s game, scoring 26 points with 9 rebounds while shooting an efficient 11-of-16 from the field.This marks Michigan’s first trip to the March Madness final since 2018 and their first with head coach Dusty May, who took over the reigns before the 2024 season.The Wolverines last won the NCAA Tournament back in 1989, when they bested Seton Hall with a team that featured three-time NBA All-Star Glen Rice.They will face off against UConn, who is looking for their third NCAA title in four seasons after their 71-62 win over Illinois Saturday evening....
