Roger Sanchez Ends 20-Year Album Gap With 'Spectrum': Listen

New York house music icon Roger Sanchez has ended a 20-year album drought with Spectrum, his first full-length release since 2006’s Come With Me.Sanchez came up through the city’s early-90s house scene alongside Todd Terry and Masters At Work, went on to build one of the era’s most coveted remix catalogs with work for Daft Punk, Madonna, Diana Ross and Kylie Minogue, and scored a UK number one in 2001 with ‘Another Chance,’ a wistful disco-inflected classic.

He also won a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording in 2003 for his rework of No Doubt’s ‘Hella Good.’ Six years in the making, the album was “definitely a labor of love,” Sanchez said.“During that time I got the chance to travel around the world and work with some amazing vocalists and songwriters to help me bring this project to life,” he said in a statement.

“I’ve got flavors from the UK, Spain, the US – all of this is part of the spectrum. This project is about music and frequencies and light: everything from the light to the soulful to the club-ready infrared, the emotionally-weighted ultraviolet.

That’s what Spectrum is all about for me.” The album opens with ‘Temptation,’ a collaboration with Low Steppa and Ragdoll that locks into a simple piano loop and builds toward peak-time payoff.Elsewhere, Kelli-Leigh uplifts ‘Midas Touch’ to a euphoric state while former Spice Girl Melanie C appears on ‘I Don’t Wanna Know,’ reflecting the album’s cross-generational reach.

Sanchez takes Spectrum on the road this summer anchored by a ‘Flower Power’ residency at Pacha Ibiza, with 10 consecutive Saturday dates confirmed from June 13th through August 29th.You can listen to Spectrum below and find the new album on streaming platforms here.
