Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter Gets Candid on Life After the Robots In Rare Interview

Thomas Bangalter has given one of his most candid interviews since Daft Punk‘s split, sitting down with The Times for an extended conversation about the duo’s end, his evolving body of solo work and whether or not a reunion is in the cards. His remarks coincided with his new album, Mirage, his second full-length release since the legendary duo’s disbandment back in February 2021.
Opening up about his experience retiring his robot helmet after spending two decades behind it, Bangalter was pensive.“I was one of the robots, but now I’m just a human without any superpowers,” he said.
When asked about Daft Punk’s breakup, Bangalter characterized it as a natural endpoint.“The history of music is made of fruitful partnerships and they usually last way shorter than the 28-year run that we had,” he said.
“It was great but staying in character and not spoiling it became very difficult.” The interview lands amid one of the more active stretches of Bangalter’s post-Daft Punk life.Last year he appeared unannounced alongside Fred again.., Busy P and Erol Alkan at the Centre Pompidou in Paris for his first DJ set without the helmet in 24 years, before reuniting with Fred at London’s Alexandra Palace in February for the closing night of the superstar producer’s ‘USB002’ tour.
On the prospect of a Daft Punk reunion, Bangalter left no room for speculation.“No,” he said unequivocally.
“I’m really happy that throughout our long run we were able to not screw it up.There are other things to explore.” Scroll to continue more from edm Search Data Reveals Tomorrowland Overtaking Coachella in Global Festival Hype...
