Olivia Rodrigo has released her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love, the follow-up to 2024’s Guts.Like her first two projects, Rodrigo kept the group she made the LP with small, mostly working with her longtime producer Daniel Nigro and songwriter Amy Allen, along with newcomers Jim-E Stack and Mike Wise.
Singer Conan Gray contributes background vocals on “Honeybee.” You can read a more detailed list of who appears on which song below. In the lead-up to the release, Rodrigo premiered You Seem Pretty’s lead single, “Drop Dead,” alongside a music video filmed at Versailles, and later pulled double duty as host and musical guest of Saturday Night Live, where she was joined by Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mering for the live debut of “Begged.” (On the album version of “Begged,” backing vocals are handled solely by Rodrigo and Nigro.)Rodrigo kept the album’s other duet, “What’s Wrong With Me,” closer to the chest, premiering it at the end of her surprise Primavera Sound set earlier this month.“This song is special to me for so many reasons, but primarily because it’s my first song I’ve ever done a feature on, which is really exciting,” she said, before inviting the Cure’s Robert Smith to join her onstage.
“I can’t believe that this song exists with the person it exists with, and I’m just so fucking over the moon.”In a profile of Rodrigo for British Vogue, Smith said he was flattered that the pop star invited him to collaborate on music, revealing he was already a fan.“I bought Sour, and then Guts (both on CD!)” he told the magazine.
“Although most of the songs on those two albums are not really ‘aimed at my demographic’(!), they are all so good that it is hard not to fall in love with them.”01 Drop DeadProducer: Daniel NigroComposer: Olivia Rodrigo, Daniel Nigro, Amy AllenLyricist: Olivia RodrigoAssistant Mastering Engineer: Jack DouttBass: Daniel NigroBackground Vocals: Olivia Rodrigo, Daniel Nigr...
