Robotic vocal samples loop into melodic hooks that lodge instantly, then cede the floor to the low end.The grooves run mechanical in the best sense, each track driving with directed rhythm and the patient accumulation of tension that marks a properly built set.
His opening salvo, ‘How We Do It,’ sets the tone, riding on an elastic bassline and a chanted refrain.“Everything came together very naturally,” Summer said of the track, noting the cut has been landing during peak-time moments in his sets for months and reliably draws a big reaction.
From there the EP holds its nerve, leaning further into hypnotic, near-industrial sonics.Tracks like ‘On The Run’ let the tension boil over as clipped vocaloid samples are swept up in a barrage of whirling techno melodies.
Meanwhile, the titular closing track is the longest on the project and takes the last word as a confident sign-off.As a whole, Do My Thing does not aimlessly reach for crossover appeal.
It commits fully to the floor, and in that focus it finds its force.Summer framed the release as a deliberate step up in scale.
“I wanted to make something authentic to my sound and that reflects the style I’ve been experimenting with through all the edits I’ve released over the past year,” he told EDM.com.“With this EP, I wanted to create a larger body of work that gives people different sounds and tracks that feel cohesive together while still being unique in their own way.” Do My Thing arrives as Summer is set to embark on his debut tour through Australia and New Zealand at the end of this month.
