Longtime family-owned California dessert shop named best in the US

A Northern California dessert shop scored the sweetest treat after the longtime family-owned market was named the Best Pie Shop in the entire United States.Ikeda’s California Country Market – with locations in Auburn and Davis – landed the top prize in USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards for pie shops.“What began as a simple fruit stand has evolved into a must-visit destination where the country charm remains authentic and the pie selection vast,” the award on USA Today read about the shops off I-80 outside of Sacramento.Some of the pies they are best known for are fruit ones, cobblers with butter crumb topping, hand pies, cream pies, pot pies, all made with their original pie crust.“We’re always using, if not farm-quality fruit, then high-quality fruit,” co-owner Derick Ikeda told CBS News Sacramento.“We’ve been doing our pies for 50 to 60 years now, and we use very fresh ingredients.”The family said the award meant even more to their grandmother Sally Ikeda who started the original market with her late husband Sam more than half a century ago, growing apples, peaches and plums on a farm, Gold Mountain News reported.Family and staff reacted to being named the best pie shop in America with a mouthwatering post showing some of the yummy goodies they offer while thanking everyone for the honor that means so much to them.“Today my grandma cried tears of joy because of the journey her and my late grandfather had all the way to now,” the Instagram message read.“Wish he could have seen this…I can’t wait to share their incredible story with you later but for now she just wants to thank all of you!”“For me and my brother it’s a special moment to finally be able to share such an event and celebration with our grandmother, father, and uncle… for us it’s the first step in making our mark on our family business that we have the opportunity and responsibility to continue!”Customers of the pie shop celebrated the news on soci...
