LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho resigns four months after FBI raid

Embattled Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho has resigned – almost four months after the FBI raided his home and office as part of a fraud and corruption probe. Carvalho, who held the role for just over four years, tendered his resignation Sunday and said it would be effective immediately,  the Los Angeles Times reported.“It has been a great honor to serve you,” the 61-year-old wrote in the note seen by the outlet.“Over the past four years, together, we have made historic progress — gains that belong to our students, our educators, staff and our communities.”In his resignation letter sent to the LAUSD, Carvalho said he didn’t want to become a “distraction” to students.“Placing students first has always guided my work,” he said.He made no direct reference to the ongoing FBI investigation, which sources revealed is linked to a corruption scandal from a botched AI education company, and LAUSD officials say a statement will be issued later.The former leader of the nation’s second-largest district, who was on a salary of $440,000, has been on paid leave for almost four months.LA Board of Education members voted on Feb.
