NYCs low primary turnout: Letters to the Editor June 29, 2026

Barely 17% of Democratic voters citywide — heavily white and under 30 — voted in this primary (“Lefties’ young demographic,” June 25).Those voters may be college-educated, but they’re poorly informed about history.New York is not alone in staying home rather than voting.Nationwide, voter turnout is not nearly what it should be.
Republicans too have to wake up and get out the vote if they are to have a stronger impact on the upcoming races and national midterms — not to mention the 2028 presidential election.Jim ForkanBaysideIt’s pathetic to see such a low overall voter turnout of only 17% citywide.The situation in the state is comical, with the Democratic Socialists of America gaining from it.
