Heroic NYPD cop jumps into polluted waterway to save woman from drowning: video

An NYPD cop heroically jumped into a murky and polluted Queens waterway to save a woman from drowning last week, harrowing video shows.The fearless Harbor Unit officer jumped into Newtown Creek around 4:45 p.m.
Friday after pilings in the water prevented the police boat from getting close enough to the woman.An attempt at tossing an inflatable safety jacket also failed, leading the heroic officer to make a drastic decision. “Are you going in?” a fellow officer asks the cop, before he responds “I’m gonna go in” – and jumps into the grimy creek without hesitation, according to bodycam footage. The video then shows the officer swimming over to the woman and grabbing onto her, before carrying her over to the boat. The cop takes the woman and himself around the boat’s port, pulling down the ladder of the patrol boat, while the ship-bound crew helps the two up, video shows. “You’re okay, you’re alright,” the NYPD crew says to the woman in the video as they take her back to shore.The footage shows the woman was treated by an Emergency Service Unit, who gave her fluids.
