School bus transporting students from Maryland School for the Blind crashes into pharmacy

An out-of-control bus transporting students from the Maryland School for the Blind smashed into the side of a building in Baltimore on Tuesday, authorities said.  Three students and two adults were riding on the bus when it careened off the road around 2:40 p.m.and crashed into a pharmacy in Parkville, police said.The bus’ driver, a student and another man at the scene received minor injuries. The collision shook the walls of the neighboring business Enchanted Cakes and Treats, according to owner Carrie Shelley, and knocked half the merchandise off the wall. “Pretty much everybody from all of the buildings came running out,” Shelly told the Baltimore Sun. Bystanders quickly rushed to the bus and opened its door, Shelley told the outlet.

A “frantic” student then came tumbling out. Among those to respond to the scene was Carrie Crawford, a teacher at the school who lives nearby. Crawford said she was “scared to death” for the safety of one of her students who’d been riding on the bus – a nonverbal girl who uses a wheelchair. But when she got to the scene, Crawford saw that the girl was “smiling” and safely with her father. “We’re just happy that no more folks are injured,” Baltimore County Fire Bureau Chief Travis Francis said.  Morning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.Please provide a valid email.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, authorities said. “The injuries are minor, and we want to get some calmness back to the neighborhood soon.”...
