Astor Place subway station train fire hospitalizes 6 MTA workers, 5 firefighters

At least six Metropolitan Transportation Authority workers and five firefighters were hospitalized after a train caught fire in Astor Place subway station early Tuesday.A vacuum train which is used to clear debris from the subway tracks caught fire just before 2:15 a.m., the FDNY confirmed.Some 46 firefighting units were dispatched to tackle the second alarm fire at the NoHo, Manhattan station.Six MTA workers and five firefighters were rushed to area hospitals, the FDNY said, without providing any details about their conditions.One MTA worker was evaluated at the scene and refused treatment.The number 4 and number 6 services have been part-suspended, the MTA confirmed.There are no services between Grand Central-42 St.

and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall in both directions while FDNY responds to the fire, according to the MTA.Commuters have been recommended to take the M15, M102, or M103 buses amid the delays.Alternatively, they can use the N, Q, or R trains.This is a developing story.
