Stefon Diggs signs with Commanders after Patriots release

Stefon Diggs has found his new home.The two-time All Pro wide receiver has agreed to a deal with the Washington Commanders, according to multiple reports.The deal is for one-year and up to $12 million for the 32-year-old, who was the top wide receiver left in free agency with training camps already starting.The signing gives Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels a new weapon.It will be a homeconing for Diggs, who was was born in Gaithersburg in the DC metro area and was raised in Maryland.

Diggs will pair with Terry McLaurin in Washington as he comes off a 1,000-yard season with the Patriots.New England released Diggs in March and head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed the team was not exploring a reunion with the veteran.The Patriots instead traded for AJ Brown over the offseason to give Drake Maye a new No.

1 receiver.“I don’t think that that’s something that, you know, that we are exploring, but I would never say no,” Vrabel said.Diggs spent the bulk of his career with the Vikings and Bills before single-season stints with the Texans and Patriots.Diggs was a critical piece of New England’s run to Super Bowl 2026.He led the Patriots with 85 receptions and 1,013 receiving yards last season.

He became the Patriots’ first 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019.Diggs has seen legal troubles in recent years.He’s been embroiled in a battle with Christopher Blake Griffith, who accused Diggs of drugging and sexually assaulting him in 2023.
