Angels star Zach Neto refuses to give answer on future in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Angels traded five players at Major League Baseball’s trade deadline — Zach Neto wasn’t one of them.The 25-year-old remains under team control for three more seasons after the conclusion of the 2026 campaign, which is part of the reason the Angels didn’t part ways with Neto this summer.So, does that mean the Angels intend to build around Neto for the foreseeable future?Neto wouldn’t answer, according to MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger.“But Neto wouldn’t say if the front office led by interim general manager John Mozeliak gave him any assurances that they plan to build around him going forward and not trade him this offseason,” Bollinger writes.There’s no telling whether the Angels plan to trade him once the season ends, but Neto’s silence speaks volumes.However, his name being brought up in trade rumors wasn’t the only thing Neto had to worry about this summer.

Since mid-July, the infielder has endured a brutal slump at the plate.In the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles, Neto hit his first home run since July 5.

The three-run dinger powered the Angels to a 4-1 win.Prior to Thursday’s performance, Neto had struggled the last 10 games.

He averaged .125 with no extra-base hits, one RBI, 16 strikeouts and a .330 OPS.Neto’s future in Los Angeles remains uncertain even with the deadline over, but it’s clear the Angels are in rebuild mode.
