Aaron Rodgers bummed out Packers-Steelers clash isnt at Lambeau Field: Would have been strange

Aaron Rodgers wanted one last trip to Lambeau Field.With the future Hall of Famer set to retire after this season, Rodgers told reporters Wednesday that he had hoped his final matchup against the Packers would take place in Green Bay.The two teams will face off on Thursday in their respective preseason openers in Pittsburgh.“When I heard it was possible to play both my former teams, I was really hoping this one was going to be in Green Bay, not just to get back at Lambeau one more time, but to head out to Chives for a dinner and maybe head out to Green Bay Country Club for a quick nine or something,” Rodgers said.

“I was really hoping it was going to be in Green Bay for a lot of reasons.”Rodgers added that the chance to reconnect with familiar faces in Green Bay made the missed Lambeau return even more disappointing.“It would have been strange, being in [the visitors] locker room and stuff, but I would have found my way over, like many former players have over the years and see some of the guys and see some of the trainers and equipment staff and all the people I really care about that still work there,” he added.“I was definitely bummed out that we weren’t in Lambeau for this one.”Rodgers is kicking off what he says will be his final NFL season after 22 years in the league. The 42-year-old quarterback spent 18 seasons in Green Bay, winning the 2011 Super Bowl. This season, Rodgers was reunited with a familiar face from his Green Bay days when Mike McCarthy replaced Mike Tomlin as the Steelers’ head coach. Rodgers and McCarthy spent 13 seasons paired up with the Packers before the latter departed after the 2018 season. The Steelers will take on the Packers on Thursday in Pittsburgh in both teams’ first preseason game....
