Sean McVay hands Rams rising star major opportunity against Chiefs

Nate Scheelhaase’s rapid climb through the Los Angeles Rams coaching staff will take another step Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs.Sean McVay announced Thursday that Scheelhaase will call the Rams’ offensive plays in their preseason opener, giving the 35-year-old offensive coordinator another chance to show why he has become one of the NFL’s fastest-rising young coaches.Preseason games have become something of a laboratory for McVay, who regularly gives assistants responsibilities they normally would not have on Sundays.Scheelhaase got one of those opportunities last year, calling the offense during the Rams’ preseason matchup with the Chargers.Mike LaFleur handled another exhibition game before eventually leaving Los Angeles to become the Cardinals’ head coach.Now Scheelhaase gets another audition, only his profile has changed considerably.
