The team behind the storied Mayan Warrior art car has announced the stage will not appear at Burning Man 2026, the event’s 40th anniversary edition.Ad 0:00 Click for sound 0:00 / 0:00 In a statement posted to Instagram, the collective said its energy on the playa this year is shifting toward art.
“While our events continue, our energy on The Playa this year is shifting toward something equally close to our hearts: Art,” the post reads.“This year, you’ll find our family at our new camp, Discosmos, located at 2 & J, where we are creating a space dedicated to Creativity, Art Installations & Music.” The announcement is significant for anyone who has experienced what Mayan Warrior has built over the years.
Founded by Pablo González Vargas and a collective of Mexican and Northern California artists, the art car has been one of Burning Man’s most beloved fixtures since its debut in 2011, hosting performances from artists including Carl Cox, Keinemusik and Monolink, among many others.The original vehicle was destroyed by a fire in April 2023, prompting the collective to rebuild from scratch.
The resulting Galaxyer, which cost nearly $3 million to construct, debuted at Burning Man 2024 with upgraded lasers, sound and a new design imagined as a futuristic Mayan spaceship.The collective has not offered an explanation for why the art car will not be making the trip to The Playa this year.
