Colts sign Keenan Allen in badly needed wide receiver boost

The Colts have brought in a former Pro Bowler for badly needed reinforcement at wide receiver.Keenan Allen has signed with Indianapolis on a one-year contract worth up to $8.32 million.according to multiple reports.After a brief pit stop with the Bears in 2024, the 34-year-old Allen returned to the Chargers last season and caught 81 passes for 777 yards and four touchdowns.Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler, steps in as an important piece for the Colts.Alec Pierce, who signed a whopping four-year, $114 million contract during the offseason, has been on the PUP list after undergoing ankle surgery and his status for Week 1 is uncertain.Josh Downs was already in line for a larger role after the Colts shipped Michael Pittman Jr.
to Pittsburgh in a cap-driven trade. But Downs is currently dealing with a groin injury that has forced him out of practice recently.Quarterback Daniel Jones, coming off a torn Achilles, appears to be rehabbing well for the Colts as he prepares to open the season for them in Indianapolis as the starter.The only healthy primary pass catcher for the Colts appears to be Tyler Warren, who burst onto the scene last year and appears to be one of the best young tight ends in the sport. The addition of Allen shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise, as the head coach Shane Steichen has had a decade-long relationship with Allen dating back to Steichen being hired by the Chargers as an offensive quality control coach.
