Unhinged straphanger stabs MTA cleaner who scolded him for urinating on busy NYC subway platform: cops, sources

An unhinged straphanger stabbed an MTA cleaner who confronted him for urinating on the bustling Times Square subway platform on Monday, cops and sources said. The lewd attacker was relieving himself on the platform of the major Midtown hub around 10:30 p.m.when the transit cleaner, a 30-year-old man, scolded him, according to the NYPD and law enforcement sources. The crude commuter then flew into a rage and started physically fighting with the worker before stabbing him on the left arm – leaving a severe cut, police said. The employee was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. By Thursday, the worker – who had been employed by the MTA since July of 2023 – was treated and released from the hospital, according to the transit agency. The pissy assailant, who hopped on board a southbound No.
1 train, remained on the loose Thursday. Footage released by the NYPD shows the bespectacled, goateed straphanger carrying a backpack on the train. “It’s unacceptable that someone would attack a transit worker doing their job to improve the lives of New York subway riders,” Bill Amarosa Jr., the MTA’s executive vice president of subways, said in a statement.“Thank goodness that cleaner appears to be recovering rapidly—and thanks to the NYPD for aggressively investigating.
Transit cameras captured the perpetrator on video, and when he’s apprehended the justice system should make sure maximum consequences are delivered.” Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crimestoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/, or on X @NYPDTips....
