Mamdanis condolences for a murderer: Letters to the Editor Aug. 29, 2026

The Issue: Mayor Mamdani saying he’s “saddened” by the death of violent murderer Clarence Woodward.We live in a truly Orwellian world when the mayor of New York City sheds tears for the death of a madman who was jailed for hacking an innocent victim to death with a meat cleaver (“Zo sheds tears for a monster,” Aug.28).That the killer was only able to commit that murder because he was mystifyingly freed on parole for other violent crimes renders Mayor Mamdani’s sympathies even more reprehensible.In his world, everything is upside-down: The police are criminals, violent gang members are innocents, Hamas murderers are freedom fighters, Jews are hated oppressors, America has a racist dictatorship and Russia, China, Iran and Cuba are utopian models of idyllic political and economic existence.Marc KasowitzManhattanSo, Mamdani thought it appropriate to send condolences to a murderer who died in jail.
