Angel Reese picks up eighth technical before WNBA rescinds suspension-inducing foul

Angel Reese looked like she could Dream’s next game after receiving her eighth technical foul of the season during Friday night’s 101-83 loss to the Portland Fire.But shortly after the game, ESPN reported that the WNBA rescinded the foul, meaning she’s back at seven technicals and won’t face an automatic one-game suspension.The All-Star initially received the technical with 8:45 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Dream trailed 76-61.Reese and Portland guard Carla Leite got tangled up while battling for position for a rebound.Leite appeared to have Reese boxed out as the star rebounder tried to gain better position around the glass.Reese appeared to shove Leite as the two separated, although she was being hooked by Leite’s left arm around her back.Officials assessed Reese a technical, bringing her season total to eight, which would have meant a suspension against the league-leading Lynx.

But the call was rescinded, and Reese will be eligible to play.“Yeah, I’m sure that we’ll appeal it,” Dream head coach Karl Smesko said after the game and before the league made the decision.“From my vantage point, it didn’t look like something that was tech-worthy, so hopefully it’ll be rescinded.
