Labor Day weekend travel will be most expensive ever as gas prices soar

It’s holiday weekend highway robbery!This Labor Day travel weekend is expected to be the most expensive ever on record — with sky-high gas prices soaring to a national average of $4.13 a gallon, according to experts.“It will be the first time the national average is over $4 on Labor Day,” Patrick De Haan, petroleum analyst for the fuel price app GasBuddy, told FOX 59.“Previously, the most expensive Labor Day ever was back in 2012 when the national average was $3.83 per gallon,” he said.“So it’s going to be the most expensive by far.”By contrast, the average price of gas nationally on Labor Day weekend last year was $3.16 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.Roadtrippers will feel the squeeze in New York, where the average price per gallon Friday was $4.29, according to live data from AAA Fuel Prices.The Big Apple is among the nation’s top Labor Day weekend destinations this year along with Seattle, Orlando, Boston and Denver, according to the roadside assistance federation.The worst times to hit the road will be Friday from 12 p.m.

to 8 p.m, Saturday 1 p.m.to 5 p.m and Monday 2 p.m.
