Palatial Hudson Valley estate once asking $30M heads to auction and could sell for millions less

This mansion couldn’t find a buyer.Now it’s going once, going twice.

A storied 151-acre spread in one of New York’s most guarded old money enclaves is about to find out what it’s really worth.Renamor, the sprawling French Provincial estate at 120 Ridge Road in Tuxedo Park, hit the market last August asking $29.5 million.A year later, with no taker in sight, the price got sliced to roughly $25 million.

That didn’t do the trick either. Now the property is headed to the auction block with Concierge Auctions, with bidding open from Sept.16 through 29, and opening numbers expected to land somewhere between $5 million and $11 million.

But there is no minimum bid set, so it could potentially sell for even lower — a brutal discount. Mansion Global first reported news of the sale.The estate dates back to 1928, built by George S.Amory, a major stockholder in the Sea-Land Freight shipping empire, and his wife Marion Renee, whose combined names gave the property its title. The couple split their time between New York City, France and Denmark, tucking their Tuxedo Park retreat in among the rolling hills of the exclusive gated village, which happens to be the first private residential community in the country.Most recently the home belonged to the late Robert S.

Dow, a longtime financial industry heavyweight and 1972 Olympic saber fencer, who died in 2024.His widow Christina Seix Dow, a former asset manager, held onto the property until listing it last summer.The main house alone runs about 14,000 square feet, packed with a great hall, a grand salon, a banquet-sized dining room, a library, a wine cellar and a onetime chapel that’s since been converted into a sitting room. There’s also a fumoir, the old fashioned term for a smoking room, a detail that dates the house as much as its clay tile roof and dormer windows do.

Sixteen bedroom suites and 20 bathrooms round out the main residence, with 19 fireplaces scattered throughout for good measure.Beyond the f...
