Yankees putting Jazz Chisholm on IL in latest injury blow

The Yankees were dealt a blow on Wednesday as second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.is going on the IL with a thumb sprain, Aaron Boone said.Chisholm jammed the thumb diving into second base Tuesday night.It is brutal timing for Chisholm and the Yankees, a day after Aaron Judge made his long-awaited return from the IL.Chisholm is in the final month of what has been a largely disappointing season, but the second baseman had finally strung together a few good weeks, batting .295 with a .832 OPS and 10 steals over his last 29 games.No decision had been made on Chisholm’s replacement as of Boone’s pregame press conference, though Boone said he’s comfortable with Anthony Volpe playing second base in the majors.Jose Caballero and Amed Rosario could be part of a rotation at second.While expanding his defensive versatility, Volpe has been on fire of late at the plate.Over his last 17 games at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he was batting .333 with eight home runs and a 1.218 OPS.That included a stretch of five home runs in five games, leading fellow former top prospect Jasson Dominguez (who rejoined the Yankees on Saturday) to joke that Volpe had become Barry Bonds....
