Anthony Volpe belts grand slam, gets curtain call in rousing Yankees return

Anthony Volpe looks like he doesn’t want to be sent back to the minors again.The 25-year-old Volpe, playing second base Thursday night, drilled a grand slam in the seventh inning to give the Yankees a 10-2 lead over the Rockies.It had already been a good night for Volpe, who was 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI.But the grand slam capped off a special five-RBI night for the beleaguered infielder who has had his struggles this season.Volpe, who has been the subject of the fans’ ire during much of his Yankees tenure, received a standing ovation and a curtain call, stepping out of the dugout to tip his helmet to the fans.Volpe was tearing it up offensively in his minor league stint and got his latest chance after Jazz Chisholm Jr.
