Fred Warner passes 49ers legend for franchise record in win over Rams

Fred’s the man.”Willis is already enshrined in Canton, Ohio, and one day Warner will be himself.But coming off a season-ending ankle injury and a month away from his 30th birthday, Warner showed he still has a lot of football left to be played — and tackles to make.The 49ers limited Matthew Stafford and the powerful Rams offense to only 280 yards and one score while forcing two turnovers, plus a goal-line stand on fourth down.Warner, as he has been since San Francisco drafted him out of BYU in the third round in 2018, was in the middle of it, making his presence felt in his first game since fracturing his ankle in Week 6 of last season. If the 99-yard scoring drive that followed the 49ers’ stuff of Stafford at the goal line didn’t seal the win, then Warner punching the ball out of Tyler Higbee’s hands on the Rams next possession did the job.
