"The Beacon of Light That's Brought Me Home": How Andrew Bayer's Son Became the Muse for His Fifth Album

At first listen, A Light That Guides Weary Travelers Home sounds like a far departure from the progressive trance roots that first seeded the career of Andrew Bayer. But as its enthralling music settles into our ears, tinctures of those powerful trance elements emerge, woven through genres like melodic bass and dubstep.

Laced throughout are emotive lyrics that describe moments of grief and growth, reflecting a path Bayer himself took while working on his fifth album.“When I started writing the album, I was in a pretty dark place in my life,” Bayer tells EDM.com.

In early 2025, he announced on social media that he and his husband were expecting their first child.Having been married since 2015, the openly gay DJ and producer was overwhelmed by the positive reactions his post generated from family, friends and fans alike.

Bayer also acknowledged the negative comments he had to navigate following the announcement.“We received so much love and support, but then we also received some backlash from that too,” Bayer recalls.

“It was initially such a joyous sort of celebration that we were posting, and then I found myself deleting like 20 to 50 comments daily of just really horrible, horrible things that people were saying about us starting our family.” Bayer admitted he had been in a bubble surrounded by love and positivity, calling the negativity and bigotry a “wake-up call.” He began to shift his perspective, deciding to focus on the impact his post could have on other people in the LGBT community who may want to embark on the same journey.Scroll to continue mor...
