Devastated shark attack survivor who lost an arm shares sad health news months after terrifying incident

Australian shark attack survivor Leah Stewart has shared a sad update on her recovery three and a half months after the terrifying incident.The mother of one, who lost an arm while swimming close to shore and between the flags at the popular beach on June 13, revealed her skin graft has failed.In a post shared to her Instagram on Tuesday morning, Stewart said she had her graft checked, and it was “not the update I was hoping for.”“Unfortunately this is not the post I was wanting to do but I had my graft checked yesterday and it was confirmed that it failed,” Stewart said.“So, I am feeling pretty devastated had quite a few tears and now we’re not really sure where to go from here.”Stewart said it’s been three and a half months and her leg is “still open.”“I guess the only good thing is we’re trying something different, so I’m having a little break from the vac machine which means I can move a little bit more freely.”The medical device, called Vacuum-Assisted Closure (VAC), is used to securely hold a new skin graft in place and help it heal.It creates suction, pulling the wound together and removing fluid.In the clip, Stewart proceeded to show viewers what her leg looks like for the first time.“I guess a lot of you wouldn’t know what a skin graft looks like so I’ll actually show you,” she said as she stood back, away from the camera.Morning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.
