A police K-9 was shot and killed on Thursday during his last shift before retirement while trying to arrest a murder suspect, according to authorities and reports.Kylo, a police dog for the Portland Police Bureau, was killed on Thursday when gunfire broke out as cops and the US Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force tried to cuff a suspect near the Chestnut Tree Inn in Portland.A manhunt was launched for the alleged killer after cops stumbled upon a dead body in a home earlier in the day, according to the Gresham Police Department.“Detectives determined the victim died by homicidal violence and identified a suspect,” police wrote in a statement.The suspect was running from authorities when the “officer-involved shooting” unfolded.He was hit with gunfire and, despite life-saving efforts, died at the scene.Kylo was also injured in the barrage of bullets on his last scheduled shift before retirement.The adorable K-9 who worked for the bureau for six years was rushed to a veterinary medical center, where he tragically died.A police procession carried Kylo’s body from the vet to the Oregon Humane’s Animal Crimes Forensic Center.“K9 Kylo was a true protector of the peace.
