NGHTMRE‘s Red Hot Chili Peppers flip is finally here, and it brought an old friend along.He’s joined by Flux Pavilion on ‘Can’t Stop Me Now,’ a new single that arrives more than three months after it was initially announced.
The track is built on the Chili Peppers’ 2003 hit ‘Can’t Stop,’ which the band cleared for release, and folds in the vocal hook from Flux’s 2010 dubstep anthem ‘I Can’t Stop.’ The clearance carries personal weight for NGHTMRE, who called the iconic rock group his “all time fav band” when announcing the release on social media.Meanwhile, the release doubles as a reunion with Flux, with whom he released ‘Feel Your Love’ a decade ago.
“Some of his earliest work is what inspired me to take production more seriously myself,” NGHTMRE said at the time, “so to be able to create with him is something I’ve always dreamed of.” ‘Can’t Stop Me Now’ started a year ago as a tool for NGHTMRE’s DJ sets before evolving into an official single.The track builds while riding the wave of John Frusciante’s instantly recognizable riff while Flux’s “I can’t stop” refrain stacks on top, a one-two punch of nostalgia for rock radio and bass-heads alike.
The tempo subsequently escalates into rapid-fire drum & bass, its breakbeats spattering beneath heavy layers of distortion.That pivot tracks with NGHTMRE’s recent direction.
