Former Knicks star J.R. Smith arrested on family assault charge

J.R.Smith was arrested on a charge of family violence on Tuesday in Texas, according to Hunt County jail records.

Smith, two-time NBA champion guard with the Cavaliers and Lakers, was arrested on one charge of assault causing bodily injury family violence.He remains in the Hunt County Detention Center, per TMZ, and jail records show no bond has been set.

In May, Smith graduated with a Liberal Arts degree from North Carolina A&T, where he was a walk-on for the men’s golf team.He recently played in amateur golf tournaments.Smith, who played 16 seasons in the NBA, was named the Sixth Man of the Year with the Knicks in 2013, and won his first championship with the Cavaliers alongside LeBron James in the 2015-16 season.Game 3 of that Finals between the Lakers and Heat on October 4, 2020 was the last time Smith played in an NBA gameHe has yet to formally announce his NBA retirement...
