Tony Romo plays in golf event with CBS career in jeopardy in first public appearance since arrest

Tony Romo is back in the public eye in what was his first appearance since his OWI arrest in July and indefinite leave from CBS.The former Cowboys quarterback was spotted competing in a professional golf tournament at The Club at Forest Ridge in Oklahoma on Wednesday.It was a pre-qualifying event for the PGA Tour Q-School by Korn Ferry as Romo tries get on the first rung of the league’s ladder.Romo was wearing a gray polo paired with black pants and a white cap in a video and photos shared by News on 6.The avid golfer shot a 4-over at 76 in the first round, which tied him for 48th in the field and nine shots behind the leader with two rounds to go.Romo, who has previously participated in the PGA Tour’s Q-School pre-qualifying, was leaving from a round of golf when he was arrested for driving under the influence in Wisconsin on July 23.After the incident, the 46-year-old was placed on leave from CBS “until further notice.”He joined the network after retiring from the NFL in 2017 and was named CBS’ top NFL analyst, joining forces with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.CBS has not acknowledged when Romo could return to the booth after replacing him with J.J.

The network did not include Romo in its Week 4 list of broadcasters.Romo was issued four citations, including one for OWI, one for possessing open intoxicants in a moving vehicle, one for unsafe passing on the right and one for refusing to take test for intoxication after arrest.It was later revealed that his blood-alcohol level was a BAC of .15.Last month, he pleaded no contest through his lawyer to the OWI charge.The other three citations were dismissed as part of the agreement with prosecutors.Romo also posted a statement and apology on social media in September, acknowledging he has had an “over-reliance on alcohol” that was developed from several back procedures he endured during his 13-year NFL career.“I own this com...
