Mamdani calls for US to join ICC, arrest Netanyahu during Theo Von podcast appearance: Architect of a horrific genocide

If he had it his way, the US would join the International Criminal Court (ICC) and enforce an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a podcast interview aired Thursday. The anti-Israel mayor, who acknowledged this summer that he has no power to enforce a 2024 ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes in Gaza, took his latest swipe at the leader of the Jewish State during an interview with popular podcaster Theo Von.“I believe that the US government should join the ICC.It should enforce its warrants for everyone,” Mamdani told the stand-up comedian on “This Past Weekend.”He later added, “When you ask about the prime minister, we’re talking about the architect of a horrific genocide.” The ICC has 124 member states and can prosecute crimes committed by nationals of member states or on the territory of member states by others.Israel and the US are not members and do not recognize the international court’s jurisdiction.US officials, including members of the Biden administration and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), slammed the ICC warrant against Netanyahu at the time as “shameful,” “unserious,” and “troubling.” However, during his mayoral campaign, Mamdani vowed that he’d have Netanyahu arrested if he ever stepped foot in the Big Apple. The socialist mayor backed down in July after reviewing potential legal avenues to arrest the Israeli leader and finding there are none. “If I had my say, the US government would have joined the ICC and honored every single warrant that they’ve issued,” Mamdani declared in his interview with Von.
