26 when someone suddenly stopped them near Grand Concourse and East 168th Street, cops said.“Baby not breathing,” the person frantically yelled to the officers and pointed toward a nearby apartment building, Garcia said.The partners immediately made a U-Turn and found the child’s desperate mother, 21-year-old Janibel Montana, outside, holding her limp son and screaming for help, dramatic body camera video captured.Little Jheyler Montero was dressed in a dinosaur costume, the video showed.Arias took the baby — and began slapping his back to force out whatever was blocking his airway.“I was giving him the backslaps,” Arias said during the reunion with Montana and her baby boy outside the 44th Precinct.“I had felt something fall off, and that’s when he started crying, started breathing again.”The baby began crying less than a minute after Arias started performing the lifesaving measure, the officer said.Arias said an object struck his boot, but neither the officers nor the family knew what it was.“I feel like I was breathing again when I saw the baby crying.I noticed I wasn’t breathing either,” Garcia admitted.The officers made sure Jheyler was taken to a hospital, then later returned to check on him, she said.At Friday’s reunion, Montana greeted the officers as “mis héroes” — my heroes in Spanish — when she saw them outside the precinct.The officers took turns holding the little boy, who turns 11 months old Saturday.Montana said she had been making food while Jheyler played in his crib when he suddenly went quiet. She tried to help him before running outside and screaming for help, according to a translation by Garcia.“...
