Former U.S.Open champion Corey Pavin shared that his wife Lisa’s cancer “never went away completely” after he previously revealed that she completed her final chemotherapy treatment in February.Pavin explained in an Instagram post that his wife underwent a cell-based gene therapy on Tuesday.“Seven plus months ago, I posted that @lisap0810 had her last chemotherapy,” Pavin, 66, said.
“We found out a couple months ago that her cancer never went away completely.“Over the last two months and after multiple visits to the Mayo Clinic, Lisa is getting her CAR-T infusion today. We are hoping and praying that this will kick her cancer’s ass!“The emotional and physical toll fighting cancer is immense, and I’m so proud of Lisa’s courage, attitude and perseverance!Pavin, who won the U.S.
Open in 1995, thanked the doctors and nurses at the Mayo Clinic for their care and empathy for Lisa, who turned 52 in August.“And much gratitude to all of Lisa’s friends who have reached out to her for your prayers and support which has helped more than you will ever know!” CAR T therapy is short for chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy.Mayo Clinic’s CAR-T Cell Therapy Program offers a cancer immunotherapy that involves genetically modifying a person’s T cells (a type of white blood cell) to activate the immune system to recognize and destroy certain cancers.Pavin did not disclose Lisa’s type of cancer.
Pavin previously shared that Lisa had her “6th and final chemo” treatment in February.“Lisa has been incredible, upbeat, strong, persevering, loving, determined, positive, resolute and simply awesome throughout her treatment,” he shared in an Instagram carousel post at the time, which included photos of Lisa during her treatment.“She has been the best patient to care for.
And it will continue to be my honor and privilege to take care of my bride.I love you!!“There is still a lot of recovery ahead in the next few months.
