Shocking subway death and more: Letters to the Editor Oct. 11, 2026

Grisly train deathAs a long-time straphanger, I was deeply saddened to read about the tragic death of the man exiting an express A train at Brooklyn’s Utica Avenue station (“New Subway Perils,” Nicole Gelinas, PostOpinion, Oct.6).According to initial reports, the passenger’s thin plastic bag got stuck in the doors, causing him to be dragged.
The train was relatively new and recently inspected, which makes this even more alarming. The conductor is being investigated for lapses in duty, but the MTA needs to look closely at its door sensors to see why these doors with latest technology cannot detect thin objects like a plastic bag. What happens when the sleeve of a coat or hem of a dress gets caught? The MTA needs a 360-degree, preemptive approach to rider safety.

This solution is easier said than done when opposing words are buried by the politically biased mainstream and social media.
The Mamdani administration sees the truth as nothing more than what citizens can be persuaded to believe in a rhetorical podcast. In essence, Leibovitz’s plea is for the city — but especially the press — to forego politics and concede to what former President Abraham Lincoln called “the better angels of our nature.”Robert Sieger ManhattanPetty DST Holdout Sen.Tom Cotton — the petty holdout — is blocking the passage of the proposed Sunshine Protection Act for selfish reasons (“ ‘Cott’ in Don’s crosshairs,” Oct.
