Warriors Brandin Podziemski gives injury scare less than 4 minutes into season debut

SAN FRANCISCO — Less than four minutes into his season debut, Brandin Podziemski was in visible pain, laying prone on the hardwood beneath the Grizzlies’ basket.Podziemski, who missed the Warriors’ season opener, took a hard fall on a drive into the lane early Friday night and remained on the floor while the game continued at the other end.Podziemski immediately retreated to the Warriors’ locker room at the next stoppage of play. The Warriors did not provide an immediate update on his status.Podziemski returned to the bench with 4:56 left in the first quarter, though he re-emerged from the locker room with a large heat or ice pack wrapped around his lower back and didn’t re-enter the game. The fifth-year guard was making his first start of the season after sitting out opening night Wednesday against the Lakers with lower back soreness. It would appear that he potentially aggravated his back when he fell to the court.

He also took a blow to the face from Memphis center Zach Edey.Podziemski was the Warriors’ most — arguably only — durable rotation piece last season, one of 18 players around the NBA to appear in all 82 games. With another veteran-laden roster, the Warriors were counting on him to act as their ironman again this year. But so far, it’s off to an inauspicious start. This story will be updated....
