Impatient Wisconsin senior, 69, flies helicopter to go shopping at Cabelas: The drive was too long

An impatient Wisconsin man, itching to get to his favorite hunting store, flew a helicopter into the parking lot to beat the traffic, authorities said.The 69-year-old got in his whirlybird and rushed to his local Cabela’s – an outdoor supply store – around 6 p.m.on Saturday, police said. The man took off from the village of Rosendale and landed at the Cabela’s in Richfield, avoiding what would have been a nearly hour-long drive. Wild video shows the moment Washington County cops roll up on the chopper, which safely touched down in an empty parking lot by the store. When officers asked the senior why he took such an unconventional way to go shopping, he told them, “the drive was too long,” police said.

Authorities said the gyroplane pilot was properly licensed, was compliant with federal regulations and more than willing to cooperate with authorities. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office called it a “unique way to make a shopping trip” in a Facebook post featuring the video. The pilot did not receive any violations for the flight, officials said....
